│ Tutorial: Resources │
└─────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
In this lesson you:
■ add a resource to the Resource list
■ allocate a resource to a task
■ check the Loading graph for a resource
■ correct a resource overallocation
──────────────────────────────────────────────────
Press Space bar><CMD>
<XFLD><Ctrl5><XFLD><ENDDEF><CMD><*1204
A resource is something used during a
project. A resource is ~used~2, but not
~used up~2--unlike materials such as nails
and paint. Examples of resources include
people, a conference room, and a machine.
Part of building a project is making a
list of available resources. Since all
projects in one subdirectory use the
same Resource list, HPM can point out
resource conflicts across projects.
────────────────────────────────────────────────
Press Space bar><CMD>
<XFLD><Ctrl5><XFLD><ENDDEF><CMD><*1416
To create or edit a Resource list, you select
~Resources~2 from the Main Menu.
────────────────────────────────────────────────
Type ~6~2><CMD>
<XFLD>6<XFLD><CHOME><CMD><*1413
This is the Resource list. The tutorial already
has included some resources for your project. You
need to add one more--a carpenter. You start by
moving the cursor to the bottom of the list.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────
Press Ctrl-End><CMD>
<XFLD><CEND><XFLD><CMD><*1813
Now move to the new resource line.
──────────────────────────────────
Press Down Arrow><CMD>

──────────────────────────────────────────
Type ~Carpenter~2 and press Tab><CMD>
<XFLD>Carpenter<TAB><XFLD><ENDDEF><CMD><*0815
The cursor is now in the Quantity column. When you add people to
the Resource list, the Quantity refers to the number of people,
not the number of hours they work. A full-time worker is 1.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Press Tab><CMD>
<XFLD><TAB><XFLD><ENDDEF><CMD><*1815
Now tell HPM the cost of the resource for each
time unit. The carpenter earns $12 per hour.
───────────────────────────────────────────────
Type ~12.0~2 and press Tab><CMD>
<XFLD>12.0<TAB><XFLD><ENDDEF><CMD><*1815
Next you indicate the time unit used to measure the
cost of the resource. The carpenter is paid hourly.
───────────────────────────────────────────────────
Type ~Hrs~2 and press Tab><CMD>
<XFLD>Hrs<TAB><XFLD><ENDDEF><CMD><*1215
Here you can add the name of a calendar created for this
resource -- so that HPM can take into consideration the
carpenter's vacation or other holidays.
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Press Space bar><CMD>
<XFLD><Ctrl5><XFLD><ENDDEF><CMD><*1215
You create resource calendars just like you created the
project calendar back in Lesson 2. For now, just move on.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Press Tab><CMD>
<XFLD><TAB><XFLD><ENDDEF><CMD><*2215
Use this column for resources that earn overtime.
The carpenter earns $18 per hour for overtime.

Type ~MaintMgr~2 and press Tab><CMD>
<XFLD>MaintMgr<TAB><XFLD><CMD><*0415
Use a ~code~2 to group resources in various ways. If resources are
in different departments, you can assign a code to each department.
Then you can print a report for each department by using the code.
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Press Space bar><CMD>
<XFLD><Ctrl5><XFLD><ENDDEF><CMD><*2215
Like the responsible column, the code column is
optional. You omit it and move to the next column.
───────────────────────────────────────────────────

<XFLD><TAB><XFLD><CMD><*1215

replace him.
